Job description

This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project aims to develop a novel in-vehicle (mobile) monitoring solution, to capture and analyse road conditions and road infrastructure, using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

Project description

The project will develop a novel in-vehicle mobile urban monitoring system (MUMS). The problem which the project will address is in direct response to client-driven demand for mobile solutions to more effectively, pro-actively maintain road condition and traffic/infrastructure.

The project is strategic for Smart Transport Hub (STH) to develop novel data technology solutions for the transport market to meet challenges. STH has already developed a static transport/traffic data analysis solution, but is seeking to extend their capabilities to develop a sophisticated mobile solution capable of delivering real-time data analysis.

Candidate Profile: minimum MSc in Data Science or a related discipline, with some relevant industry experience.

Skills/ experience required include:

Expertise in data analytics, particular in Machine Learning and Computer Vision
Ability to demonstrate numerical and machine learning software skills in e.g. MATLAB, Python
Experience of supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques
Experience in simulation technology
Ability to innovate and initiate work in a practical environment
A track record of publications in deep learning algorithms
Additional experience of working in the logistics, transport and infrastructure-related field would be a distinct advantage
Main responsibilities:

Developing sophisticated ML algorithms for machine vision
Extending the most recent research in depth estimation from single camera to multi-camera set-ups
Improving methods for stat-of-the-art depth estimation
Integration of developed algorithms with STH’s existing software platform and client dashboards
Developing data technology solutions that are not only novel, but meet existing market challenges
