The University of Essex in partnership with Lubron UK Ltd offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to develop smart predictive monitoring and maintenance for water purification systems using the latest IoT and data analytics techniques. This post is fixed term for 26 months and is based at Lubron offices in Colchester.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include:

– Establish an awareness of Lubron’s working environment and gain an understanding of the problems which are to be addressed through the utilisation of IoT and data analytics for smart monitoring and predictive maintenance.
– Research/implementation/testing/evaluation of an IoT prototype for capturing and transmission/fusion of sensors’ data.
– Application of novel IoT models and wireless communication techniques to improve the performance of the prototype for real-time monitoring.
– Development of necessary tools to control and manage the prototype.
– Evaluating and using appropriate machine/deep learning techniques for predictive analytics.
– Design and build software and dashboard to interact with the system.
– Publishing academic journal articles and drafting patent applications, where required.
– Preparing and presenting results of the research programme to both technical panel meetings and lay audiences.
– At all stages, ensure that skills brought to and developed by the project are transferred to Lubron’s existing skills base by conducting training exercises. Advise on training policy and implementation as required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
The post holder must have:
– BSc in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or related discipline
– A higher degree, such as MSc and/or PhD in Computer Hardware Engineering, Electronic – Engineering or Embedded Systems Engineering, IoT, Computer Systems Engineering with Artificial – Intelligence, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
– Good applied knowledge and experience of Hardware / embedded systems, sensors, Microcontrollers
– Applied knowledge of Machine Learning and Deep learning approaches
– Knowledge of IoT and data analytics and the challenges associated with these fields
– Skills around development of end-to-end IoT systems and low-power wireless communication technologies
– Ability to design an IoT-based monitoring system flexible and adaptable to apply to many different products and environments
– Ability to deploy the latest machine/deep learning techniques to develop an intelligent monitoring system
– Ability to develop cloud-based dashboard connected to real-time monitoring system
– Ability to handle and manipulate large and complex data
– Experience of writing technical reports/papers
– Experience of presenting technical information to a lay audience
– Ability to manage a complex project with competing priorities
– Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including clients and senior company representatives
– Ability to understand Lubron’s commercial drivers and business model
– Ability to balance commercial impact with research outputs
– Excellent command of written and spoken English
