UCL and FCB Studios are coming together through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), a national scheme which helps businesses to innovate and grow, by linking businesses with a university and a highly-qualified graduate, known as a KTP Associate. We are now recruiting for a KTP Associate who will work full-time on this innovative project putting the latest academic research into practice, based at the FCB Studios offices.
This is a unique opportunity to gain commercial skills and experience, working inside a dynamic business which is changing the face of environmental sustainability in buildings, and working alongside world-leading academics on an innovative and scientifically rigorous project.

Project description

The KTP Associate is responsible for the day-to-day running of the project. The Associate will be expected to show initiative and independence of thought in developing the research as well as questioning and inquisitive skills as an industry-based researcher and project manager. Specifically, this includes:

1. establishing climate responsive building design KPIs for net-zero carbon in the context of a changing and extreme climates
2. leading the development of digital twins of selected case studies including the development of (a) tools to generate building models, (b) tools to generate scenarios, and (c) application of tools to create digital twins of a school, office and large apartment block
3. applying parametric modelling and building optimisation to address environmental and total (embodied and operational) carbon performance in the context of a changing and extreme climates (temperate, arid, tropical, cold).
4. defining resilience, adaptation and decarbonisation scenario analyses including base case study design and identifying changes needed to the existing designs to achieve net-zero carbon in the context of a changing climate
5. providing insights into local standards and cultures around comfort, particularly on temperature, humidity, air quality, light levels and noise
6. co-producing the International Environmental Handbook
7. co-producing the Net Zero Carbon Decision Support Protocol in the context of changing and extreme climates (temperate, arid, tropical, cold).
