The University of Essex in partnership with Broody London offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to create innovative, AI-driven tools and services that empower entrepreneurs, while expanding the capacity and knowledge base of the UK’s leading business incubator and accelerator.

This post is fixed term for 30 months and is based at Broody’s offices in London.

The role is hybrid – the successful applicant will need to commit to work at least 3 days in the office.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include:

– To apply Machine Learning (ML) techniques to develop a state-of-the-art decision-making algorithm.
– To train and evaluate the ML models.
– To design and conduct a survey to test the created decision-making algorithm or system.
– Analysis of data relevant to business success.
To work with front-end developers and marketing teams to create a graphical user interface.
– To create the intermediate system responsible for fetching information from the user interface and provide it to the backend system, and vice versa.
– To perform integration tests of the different created systems.
– To perform a systematic literature review on business success.
– To design a survey and collect qualitative and quantitative data from entrepreneurs in the UK.
– To analyse the collected qualitative and quantitative data.
– To embed technology, train and upskill company staff.
– To participate in academic and/or industrial conferences and other events, to disseminate and present research outcomes to the wider community.
– To contribute to the writing of academic publications and teaching materials, with an appreciation of the potential of the project to contribute to the Research Excellence Framework.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
– BSc in Machine Learning, Computing Science or a similar discipline.
– MSc in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Applied AI, or equivalent industry experience (highly desirable).
– Knowledge and skills of qualitative and quantitative research, including systematic literature review.
– Thorough understanding of theory and best practice around AI algorithm development.
– Experience of developing AI and/or machine learning-based algorithms for commercial applications.
– An understanding of best practice in data capture, storage and management.
– A thorough grounding in data for business intelligence (desirable).
– Demonstrable experience in working with appropriate coding languages, e.g. Python and relevant stacks.
– Ability to contribute to the drafting of academic papers for publication in leading journals and conferences.
– Excellent grasp of written and spoken English.
– An excellent communicator, who can explain theoretical and technical concepts to non-experts.
– A potential leader with the capability to bring people along on the journey to transformation.
Persistent, tenacious and delivery focused.
– Able to lead a complex project with multiple competing priorities.
– Team player who can also take initiative and work unsupervised.
