The University of Essex in partnership with Gerald McDonald & Co. Ltd, the UK’s leading independent juice and spice purveyor with high international projection, offers an exciting opportunity to work on a project that aims to digitise, modernise, scale and expand the use of IT systems for their business operation and utilising data for insights and decision making.

The associate is expected to perform technical work related to the implementation of new systems, data migration and integration, as well as being involved in making decisions about IT modernization, digital operations, and future systems for the business.

The project also includes a specific budget for training, personal development, and travel for the associate.

This post is fixed term for 24 months and is based at Gerald McDonald’s offices in Basildon.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include:
– Familiarization with the current IT systems and operational workflows of the company.
– Performing a digital modernisation plan for the company.
– Designing a new IT business solution, including integration of business resources and previous historical data.
– Implementation of a new cloud enterprise system and progressively migrating data and business operations onto the new system.
– Liaising with the new IT system partner/installer
– Explore how the company can leverage its data to generate insights for improving business intelligence and operational processes. Embedding technology and upskilling company staff.
– Participating in industrial events or academic conferences and disseminating project outcomes to the wider community.
-Point of contact for staff and IT support provider for company IT matters.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

– BSc in Computer Science, Informatics, ICT Systems, Business Systems, or a similar discipline.
– Knowledge and experience of database management, design, implementation and information retrieval systems.
– Prior knowledge or experience on business ERP/CRM management and design platforms (and desirable in the Microsoft Dynamics suite).
– Expert knowledge of SQL, database querying, design and manipulation, and programming in multipurpose languages used in enterprise applications (NET frameworks, Power BI, or similar).
– Aptitude for learning new technologies and constantly progressing your expertise.
Experience in the use of APIs (e.g., REST APIs. SOAP), and programmatic access and configuration of software.
– An understanding of system integration through e.g., APls.
– Understanding of operations management, lean thinking, and business process re-engineering.
– An understanding of best practice in data capture, storage, and management.
– Familiarisation or understanding of the use data for business intelligence.
– Experience working with business solution systems, including install, management, design, documentation, configuration, evaluation, and go live.
– An interest in the application of big data analytics for deriving market insights and improving operational efficiencies.
– Ability to interact, provide training and translate technical concepts and ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
– Project management skills including budgeting and forecasting.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
– Strong problem-solving skills.
– Able to lead a complex project with multiple competing priorities.
– Excellent use of written and spoken English to write reports and present it to suitable business and academic audiences.
– Dynamic, self-motivated and proactive attitude to work.
– Ability to elaborate proposals of new business technologies for the company, elaborating an implementation and user’s training plan.
– Monitoring and control of business services and elaborating documentation.
