Job description

• Liaising with Above Surveying staff to understand the business requirements and rationale of the data science programme of work.
• Understanding the wider strategy behind the project and how it will impact on the company.
• Lead on delivery of the project work plan, ensuring knowledge and capability is embedded within the company.
• Acting as the data science expert to technical and non-technical employees.
• Managing a complex project with multiple stakeholders, monitoring and reporting on progress and ensuring objectives are met.
• Transferring data science/machine learning knowledge to other Above Surveying employees.
• Building mathematical models to represent real life settings and analysing them, e.g. using cutting-edge time series analysis techniques.
• Development and implementation of data collection methods, particularly in Python programming language.
• Design and evaluation of predictive models.
• Design and evaluation of optimisation algorithms.
• Contribute to the down streaming and adoption of new technology within Above Surveying.
• Collaboration with the academic team on preparation of academic journal publications, technical reports and scientific papers.

The post holder must have:

• MSc in Data Science, Economics/Management/Business Analytics (with experience of mathematical modelling), Computer science, or related discipline, or equivalent level of industry experience.
• Experience of accessing external data sources such as weather and publicly available asset data through APIs or web scraping
• Experience in building effective simulators to test and re-test scenarios to define product parameters
• Experience of fusing disparate and varying types of data
• Experience of conducting statistical analysis and visualization of data
• Ability to select an appropriate set of technologies and languages to apply to the problem (e.g. Python, MongoDB, R, NeoJ4, etc.)
• Ability to write technical reports/papers
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
