We are delighted to announce that the first round of Innovate UK’s Accelerated Knowledge Transfer to Innovate (AKT2I) pilot scheme will open at midday on Wednesday 7th September 2022, and close at midday on Friday the 23rd September 2022. This scheme is being jointly delivered by Innovate UK and Innovate UK KTN.

A total of £3m is available to support this pilot and whilst we anticipate running subsequent rounds in October and potentially November, these will be dependent on funding being available from this overall budget.

The Accelerated Knowledge Transfer to Innovate (AKT2I) pilot will support a UK Higher Education (HE), Further Education (FE) institution, Research Organisation (RTO) or Catapult (the Knowledge Base partner), to work with a UK registered business, charitable company, or charity (the Business Partner), to deliver a short, rapid and targeted intervention to accelerate the evaluation or development of an innovation project or concept, which has the potential for significant impact for the Business Partner. Projects must run for between 2 and 4-months.

The application must be submitted by the Knowledge Base partner but will be developed in partnership with the Business Partner.  The Knowledge Base will be the sole grant recipient.

Public sector organisations are not eligible as Business Partners in an AKT project.

Please note that AKT2I Round 1 is now closed.

We aim to notify successful applicants within one month of the competition closing.

Briefing Webinar – Recording

We hosted a webinar briefing on Thursday the 1st September, the webinar provided delegates with information on the pilot competition.

Competition Funding Updates

Innovate UK has taken the decision not to run any additional rounds of the AKT2I pilot this year.

The pilot competition initial round was extremely successful and as a result heavily oversubscribed. With this anticipated level of  demand expected for additional funding rounds, it would acquire significant additional budget, which is unfortunately not feasible. However, we have secured a small uplift that will allow us to fund more than the 80 projects. We will use the coming months to consolidate our learning from the pilot projects so that when we bring AKT2I back next year.

Please note we are working as hard as we can with Innovate UK to complete due diligence checks on all applications and hope to be able to notify projects by 11 November.

Please consult these documents and the webinar recording in the first instance if there is anything you are unsure about. In the event that you have any outstanding queries, please contact ktpquestions@iuk.ukri.org. Note that we will endeavour to ensure that your query is addressed via the FAQ document and may not respond directly to individual queries.
